Interest groups have been formed in the Gesneriad Society to meet the specific needs of members.
Current Interest Groups are:
Judges Interest Group enables certified judges to exchange ideas about judging and the judging process. Appraisal, the newsletter of the Judges Interest Group, is available to everyone and is published three times a year.
The Gesneriad Hybridizers Association (GHA) is focused on hybridizing gesneriads and sharing information about hybridizing in the group’s newsletter, CrossWords, which is published three times a year
Members interested in forming an interest group should contact the President for information on how to go about the formation of a new interest group.
The Judges Interest Group enables certified judges to exchange ideas about judging and the judging process.
All certified Gesneriad Society judges are members of this interest group. The group meets yearly at each convention to review and discuss topics related to judging and to assist the Chairperson of Shows and Judging in improving both the judging and showing of gesneriads. The convention meeting is open to all, judges and non-judges alike.
Appraisal is the publication of this interest group and subscriptions are available to everyone – you don’t have to be a judge or a member of the Society to subscribe.
The 2016 Flower Show Manual is an invaluable tool in learning how to run a show, judge gesneriads, and also how to show gesneriads. Members can download it free in the members area.
Anyone interested in showing and judging gesneriads may subscribe to Appraisal and you need not be a member of the Gesneriad Society or be a gesneriad judge to subscribe. This newsletter, published in January, May, and September by the Judges Interest Group, contains information on chapter and convention flower shows, tips on judging, questions from judges and other articles of interest to judges and gesneriad exhibitors alike. The Gesneriad Hybridizers Association (GHA) was founded in 1978 and is an interest group of The Gesneriad Society.
The focus of GHA is hybridizing gesneriads and sharing information about hybridizing in the group’s newsletter, CrossWords, which is published three times a year and contains articles of interest to gesneriad hybridizers. CrossWords is available to GHA members as a full-color PDF attachment sent via email, or it can be sent via postal mail. In addition, members can access back issues using a PW provided to members (coming soon).
GHA meets once a year at The Gesneriad Society convention to conduct business and present a program, accompanied by slides and PowerPoint presentations. Hybridizers discuss recent developments in hybrids and hybridizing and there is a raffle of a wide variety of new hybrids. This meeting is open to everyone, GHA members and non-members alike
Members of The Gesneriad Hybridizers Association (GHA) receive CrossWords, which is published three times a year and contains articles of interest to gesneriad hybridizers.
